Saturday, May 30th I had the pleasure of calling for the Birmingham Square Dance Association’s President’s Ball. They have an incredible association with terrific callers and dancers. Back in the 70s and 80s if an outside caller came into our area a lot of the local callers would not support the dance. I always felt uncomfortable about that and felt I should go meet the caller and support the dance. Now the shoe is on the other foot and I really appreciate the local callers who came out to support the dance.
The dance was very lively with a lot of dancer response. We started with 7 squares and danced 6 squares most of the tips that followed. I seem to have developed a friendship with one of the Birmingham callers and I value that very much. This is the main reason I joined the Alabama Callers Association. I wanted to develop friendships with other callers. I also appreciate being booked back to call another one of their association dances in 2027.
If you get a chance to dance at an association dance in Alabama, I would encourage you to make the effort. You will not regret it!
